To rise to the challenge, of a new day
We sail life along, for year after years
Collecting events, which add to the tears

She didn’t mean it, when she said I love you
Events such as these, add a pound or two
I need your help, I’m your friend for life
Then disappears, and adds to the strife

The dog, your loving companion for many years
Grows old and departs, and adds to the tears
Your favourite car, smashed in a wreck
Sailing through life, baggage high on the deck

The baggage we carry, prevents us from trusting
We see expressions of love, as simply lusting
Becoming more cynical, and quietly withdrawn
Relationships with others, increasingly forlorn

We sail life along, for year after years
Collecting events, which add to the tears
Becoming more cynical, distant and scarred
To such an extent, breaking through is hard

Must make the effort, I really will say
To rise to the challenge, of a new day
Open your doors, let others see you
Stow baggage away, let your love shine through
