Land used and abused, over many years.
Black-coal slag, adds to our fears.
Economic necessity, "black gold" was King.
Now reclaimed, our souls will sing.
Blackened hills, barren and soiled.
Displayed a place, where miners toiled.
River polluted, deadly toxic waste.
Lowered our spirits, a waste of space.
Closed, this abysmal Victorian site.
Years of planning, lets in light.
Top soil piled high, covers the waste.
Seeded, grown, provides a green place.
Wigwam frames, beckon climbers to grow.
Nurtured wild flowers, provide this show.
An educational centre, children taught in the sun.
With enough diversion, makes learning fun.
Slowly, a river flushes pollution.
Fish return, a natural evolution.
A tenuous start, many years to go.
A passionate task, building nature slow.
