On entering the classroom, the lieutenant, noticing the prank, instructed the apprentice to "get his haircut" much to the amusement of the rest of the class. Once the laughter subsided, the lieutenant ordered the apprentice to remove the wig, and instruction resumed as normal.

The following week, the same class of apprentices had another hour of instruction from the same officer. On entering the classroom, the lieutenant noticed that the apprentice had not had his haircut and he demanded to know why. The apprentice replied that he thought the order was in response to him wearing a Beatles wig and was part of the joke. The lieutenant replied that the joke was on him and the apprentice was instructed to report to the Master-At-Arms.

Three days later the apprentice found himself on a charge of "Direct disobedience of an officer" and he was found to be guilty. The "Joke" was certainly on the apprentice as he spent the next week confined to the ship's cells.
