Windows 98
Basic Housekeeping...Part 2
If we do Part One on a daily
basis.
Try this every other day to start with.
But do Part One first then this part.
You will soon find it so
easy that you will naturally
combine the two parts and maybe do them every
day
Before we start.
A
WARNING.
Here I assume that you are not using
the Temp
folder to store any of your own stuff
within.
If you are,
remove it and store it in another suitable folder on your C
drive.
Or D drive if you have one.
In future do not store anything in the Temp
Folder.
This folder must be left to store computer generated
junk.
Nothing more
Access your Temp folder.
I do
this so often that I have a shortcut on my desktop
to make it
easier
You will see
this...
My folder only has one file in it as I clear it out
often.
You may have many and all are
unnecessary.
Often files with extensions other than .TMP
will be found in
here.
Including some .EXE program files
if you have been installing some types of
programs.
If they appear here they are not
needed.
But if you want to gain confidence with these
procedures.
You can leave them in your re-cycle bin
and see if your computer asks
for any one.
It is extremely unlikely that it
will.
But if you are nervous and
wish to gain confidence .
Leave them in your re-cycle bin for a wee
while.
Stuff in the bin is hidden from the computer
So it cannot be
automatically re-used
Select EDIT then
SELECT ALL
This will
highlight all files within the
folder
Then Select FILE...and then
DELETE

When this screen appears..Say
YES
Then the entire contents of your TEMP Folder are removed to the re-cycle bin
If in
doubt leave it there for a few days till you have confidence
Empty your re-cycle bin and tis gone for
good.
So now we have removed all the contents of the Temp Folder,
The Cookies
Folder and the Temporary internet files folder.
A
good start. But we have a way to go
yet
So here ends the Second
Part of Basic housekeeping
